About us

geneve_jet.pngThe National Center of Competence in Research “Affective Sciences – Emotions in Individual Behaviour and Social Processes” (NCCR Affective Sciences) is a research centre dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of emotions and their effects on human behaviour and society. Emotions play an important part in almost all areas of our lives, such as health, at school, in the courtroom, in politics, in the arts, in economic life, and in sport. What triggers our emotions? How do we control our emotions? How do emotions influence interpersonal relations and social interactions?

In order to study these and other questions from a multidisciplinary perspective, the NCCR Affective Sciences brings together more than 100 researchers from various disciplines and universities. A wide range of leading-edge methods and paradigms is applied, such conceptual and comparative analyses, behavioural analyses, analysis of verbal and non-verbal communication , physiological measurement, and measurement of brain activity. The multidisciplinary training of the next generation of emotion researchers and partnerships with public- and private-sector organizations are an important part of the mission of the NCCR Affective Sciences.

The NCCR Affective Sciences is one of 21 NCCRs funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and is hosted at the University of Geneva (Swiss Center for Affective Sciences).
